Seen.Β Heard.Β Unmasked.Β
π π April 3β10, 2027Β
π Abuja Β· Enugu Β· Lagos, NigeriaΒ
We tested the world's most advanced AI systems β ChatGPT, Sora, Gemini β with one request: Generate a dignified portrait of an African person with scleroderma.
Every single one failed. They produced vitiligo. Generic "aesthetic ruggedness." Beautiful faces that were not our faces. They could not see us accurately because we were never in the room when they were trained.
"We are not waiting for AI to learn our faces or our differences. We are building the dataset ourselves." β #ASWALKFestival
On April 10, 2027, in Lagos, we gather β not as subjects. As authors of our own image. On our own terms. With our own consent.
This is the Human Data Strike.
ASWALK Festival is the cultural manifestation of this new fieldβa space designed not around abstract "diversity" but around the lived reality of human appearance differences.
It is Africaβs first travelling cultural platform dedicated to creating spaces of authentic appearance, where people are not hidden, corrected, or pitied, but seen, respected, and centred on their own terms. By The Appearance Positive (TAP), ASWALK brings together dialogue, culture, movement, and ethical public visibility to challenge harmful norms and build a new social imagination around appearance. ASWALK is not a one-off event. It is a growing African platform designed to expand thoughtfully across cities and countries.
In this Republic, lived experience is the highest authority. Not credentials. Not titles. Not pity.
Every person who comes to ASWALK belongs to a House β not a diagnosis, not a category. A space of belonging, dignity, and solidarity built on shared experience.
The Republic has 11 Houses:
House of Radiance Β· Albinism β Guardians of the LightΒ
House of Prism Β· Vitiligo, Piebaldism, Pigmentation β The Art of Shifting SkinΒ
House of Resilience Β· Burns, Scars, Keloids β Marked, Not BrokenΒ
House of Courage Β· Psoriasis, Eczema, Chronic Skin β Living Through the FlareΒ
House of Grace Β· Alopecia, Hair Loss β The Crown UnveiledΒ
House of Strength Β· Cleft, Facial Differences β The Power of the Original FaceΒ
House of Infinite Β· Rare Conditions, Ichthyosis, EB, XP, Scleroderma β Endurance Without EndΒ
House of Heritage Β· Tribal Marks, Cultural Scarification, Birthmarks β The Ancestral MapΒ
House of Sovereignty Β· Post-Treatment NTD Conditions β Agency RestoredΒ
House of Reckoning Β· Skin Bleaching Injury, Colourism Harm β Healing from the Pressure to ConformΒ
House of Allies Β· Parents, Caregivers, Advocates β Walking Beside, Not Speaking Over
One principle governs all of it: Visibility is a choice. Dignity is non-negotiable.
ASWALK is not a single event. It is an interconnected cultural ecosystem β and each part does different work.Β
