ASWALK Festival PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The First Gathering

April 3–10, 2027 · Enugu → Lagos, Nigeria

This is where the Appearance Republic is founded. Not declared from above — built from the ground up, by the people who have been living inside these realities (of Visible and Appearance differences - skin conditions, scars, burns, tribal marks, birthmarks etc) their whole lives.

Seven days. Two cities. One founding.

At the centre of it all stands ỤdịM — a figure who carries every visible difference at once. Unedited. Unashamed. She is not a mascot. She is what it looks like to exist fully, without apology, in a body the world has not yet learned to see.

April 3 — The Flag-Off

MASK Off Walk · Enugu

The festival does not open with speeches. It opens in the streets.

People with vitiligo, alopecia, scars, burns, tribal marks — walking through the cultural heart of the East. No cover. No shame. No apologies. The country sees us before the summit begins.

April 4 — Arrivals

Lagos Mainland

Citizens, delegates, and allies arrive from across Nigeria and beyond. This is not registration. This is a community recognising itself.

April 5 — Healing Before Policy

Evening: The Sovereign Roundtable — the official Lagos opening. Delegates, partners, and founding members gather. The Own Your Appearance handbook is presented. The tone is set not by a keynote, but by the community itself.  Appear+ Presentations

April 6Professional Intensive + The Sovereign Roundtable · Lagos

A first-of-its-kind paid professional intensive for dermatologists, psychologists, mental health practitioners, and health ministry professionals. Co-facilitated by a clinical psychologist and a person with lived experience of visible difference. Not a lecture. Not a complaint. An experience that will ask you to sit inside the reality your patients have been trying to describe to you for years. You will leave with something medical school did not give you.

(Limited seats. Details and registration →)

April 7–8 — The Intellectual Engine

Africa Appearance Summit (AAS)

Two days where lived experience shapes systems — psychosocial well-being, AI and data sovereignty, and Africa's cultural future beyond imported standards of beauty.

This is not the kind of summit where researchers present findings to patients and call it inclusion. One full day belongs to the patients: their questions, their stories, their terms. House-based gatherings run throughout; spaces of storytelling, identity, and collective care within each of the 11 Houses.

You have never attended a summit run this way. That is deliberate.

April 9 — MARKED - The Collective

MARKED Exhibition is not designed simply to be viewed. It is designed to change the way people see.

MARKED is a new UK–Nigeria co-created immersive portrait experience developed by ASWALK Festival, a programme of The Appearance Positive Ltd (TAP), in collaboration with UK portrait artist Kelvin Okafor, working in Emotional Realism.

April 10 — The Republic Climax

The Sovereign Finale

The Appearance Republic Inter-Condition Games — not aesthetics competitions, expression competitions. Oratory on appearance justice. Identity poetry. The 11 Houses competing in forms that cannot be faked.

Then: the Human Data Strike Activation. Thousands of people with visible differences, documented on their own terms. Consent-based. Community-governed. Historically unprecedented.
And World Record attempt.

The Republic was founded in the streets of Enugu. It is completed here.

Full programme published November 2026. Speaker and facilitator announcements to follow.
